A scientist from Mote Marine Lab in Sarasota, Fla., tags a blacktip shark as part of a study on how the animals react to the stress of catch-and-release fishing. Blacktip sharks are an important species for recreational and commercial fisheries in Florida.

Sharks should be protected.

Even after attacks on humans, sharks should be protected.

The latest string of fatal shark attacks in Western Australia is creating a climate of fear that could haphazardly undo a very important environmental law that protects great white sharks.

100 Sharks attack whale

You would be understandably hesitant about getting in the water with over 100 tiger sharks furiously feeding over the carcass of a dead whale.

But the surfer Rachel Campbell and her friends were not put off in the slightest.

Rachel filmed the amazing scene on the beach near Warroora Station in northwestern Australia, then wandered a kilometre or so up the beach and went for a surf anyway.

Writing on her blog she said: 'I was collecting shells along the beach with my mum. Searching the white sand while crystal water lapped at my ankles.

'Before long I realized there were about 100 sharks in total, some as long as 4m, all in a frenzy over fresh whale flesh. 

'I have to say that I felt pretty massive playing chicken with waves barely the height of my ankle. You only had to get knee deep and suddenly you're sharing the same square meter of Indian Ocean with a tiger shark.'

She added: 'I am well aware of those beasts outside my control. I will still surf here though, because it's not about merely surviving this ocean, it's about living and breathing everything that this crazy place has to offer.

'Let's just hope those sharks are full for now.

Βουτιά με καρχαρία, Έλληνας προπονητής.

Συνάντηση Έλληνα προπονητή, με έναν 3μετρο καρχαρία Oceanic White Tip.

Το απίστευτο περιστατικό συνέβη στον προπονητή της ομάδας βόλεϊ του Άρη, Γιώργο Γιάτση, στο βυθό της Ερυθράς Θάλασσας όπου είχε πάει για διακοπές.

«Στην τελευταία βουτιά, σε βάθος 30 μέτρων, ένας καρχαρίας οceanic white tip, από τους τέσσερις πιο επικίνδυνους και επιθετικούς καρχαρίες, με πλησίασε απειλητικά δύο φορές σε απόσταση λιγότερο από μισό μέτρο… Ευτυχώς, κράτησα την ψυχραιμία μου και έμεινα ακίνητος γιατί θα είχα θέμα! Όπως μου είπε o divemaster, στάθηκα πολύ τυχερός που είχα μια τέτοια εμπειρία… και ευτυχώς που κρατήθηκα ήρεμος και τον κοιτούσα συνεχώς», δήλωσε ο προπονητής.

Το περιστατικό βιντεοσκοπήθηκε από τον δεύτερο εκπαιδευτή, που βρίσκεται πάντα σε απόσταση και απαθανατίζει την κατάδυση για λογαριασμό του πελάτη. 

Καλύτερο σουβενίρ από τις διακοπές του δεν θα μπορούσε να έχει ο Γιώργος Γιάτσης!
